Cambridge Exam Preparation Course Advice – Which Option is Right for Me?

Sep 14, 2016

Islington Centre for English offers a variety of Cambridge exam preparation courses. These courses, which range from part-time to super-intensive, are designed to get you ready for the Cambridge exams and to ensure that you get the best grade possible. As well as improving your level of English in preparation for the exams, you will also prepare for the exam questions under timed exam conditions, similar to what you’ll experience when you take the actual Cambridge English exams.

Why take a preparation course?

The Cambridge exam is an internationally-recognised qualification that looks great on your CV and is an essential for getting into many UK universities (CAE Level). Taking an exam preparation course ensures that you get the best grade possible. We’ll take you through the exam format, teach you techniques and skills to help you pass the exam, and go through essential vocabulary that’s specific to the Cambridge exams. Throughout the duration of the exam preparation course, we’ll focus on improving your spoken, written, and aural English to bring them up to CEFR B2 or C1 levels.

Which option is right for you?

At Islington Centre for English we offer the following exam preparation courses:

  • Evening course
  • Part-time course
  • Full-time course
  • Full-time plus! Course
  • Super-intensive course

Which course is right for you depends firstly on how long you are in the UK for and secondly, how much time you are able to dedicate to learning English each week. You will also need to take into account when you plan to sit your Cambridge exam and how many hours of tuition you will need to commit to in order to pass the exam. If you’re not sure, get in touch and ask us.

I only have a little free time

If you are living and working in the UK, then an evening or part-time course is probably the most practical option. Evening courses offer four hours of tuition per week, while part-time courses offer anywhere from six to 12 hours of tuition per week (five to 10 hours, not including breaks).

I want to study full time

The full-time course offers 15 hours of tuition per week, including breaks (12.5 hours not including breaks). Alternatively, the full-time plus! course offers 17.5 hours of tuition per week (15 hours not including breaks).

Looking to make fast progress in a short space of time?

If you are only visiting the UK for a limited time, the best two options would be either the full-time plus! course, detailed above, or the super-intensive course, offering 30 hours of tuition (25 hours not including breaks) per week.

Next steps

If you’re ready to take the next step towards getting your First Certificate (FCE) or Advanced Exam (CAE), get in touch with us to discuss which options are right for you. As well as talking over which course is most suitable, we can also give you advice on accommodation options, as well as how long you will need to commit to studying before you are ready to pass the exam.
